Do you have a flat roof?
If you have a flat roof on your residence, getting a new roof when it is needed is so important. When a roof is flat, it won’t shed water as quickly as a pitched roof. A pitched roof uses channels between its tiles, shingles, or panels to allow gravity to quickly remove the water from its surface. A flat roof, however, needs to be able to withstand water without leaking, sagging, or compromising its overall integrity. The best roofers use a membrane material for this application that will effectively waterproof the top of your home.
Here are the two materials we like the most:
EPDM, short for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, is a type of recycled rubber that goes over the entirety of the roof in one large membrane in order to seal out water, ice, and everything else. EPDM is very lightweight and can last for 50+ years without any leaks or damage.
Thermoplastic Polyolefin is another commonly trusted membrane material that we use here at Tycos. TPO has a lot of the same benefits as EPDM but is made of a different compound with slightly different properties. TPO is also very lightweight and also lasts up to half a century without any issues.
